Many times, teachers will give you the quote. But if you have to choose one yourself, choose a quote that you know you can write about.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t have to be one you agree with. Show me examples.<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<h3>Outlining the critical lens essay<\/h3>\n<p>Now, on to the outline.<\/p>\n<p>To give it a little more context, we\u2019ll be using the anonymous quote, &#8220;All conflict in literature is, in its simplest form, a struggle between good and evil.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There are so many pieces of literature you can draw from here, but I\u2019m going to use <i>The Wonderful Wizard of Oz<\/i> and <i>Alice\u2019s Adventures in Wonderland<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>My outline would look like this:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/introduction-paragraph-how-to-fix-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/a>\n<ol style=\"list-style: upper-alpha;\">\n<li>Quote: \u201cAll conflict in literature is, in its simplest form, a struggle between good and evil.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Explanation of quote.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/turn-a-good-thesis-statement-great\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thesis<\/a>: This quote is untrue because it does not take into account that the conflict in some literature, such as <i>The Wonderful Wizard of Oz<\/i> or <i>Alice\u2019s Adventures in Wonderland<\/i>, is about a journey rather than a clash between good and evil.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><i>Wizard of Oz<\/i><\/strong>\n<ol style=\"list-style: upper-alpha;\">\n<li>There is an evil character (the Wicked Witch), but the conflict doesn\u2019t center around her.<\/li>\n<li>Dorothy just wants to go back home, and overcoming obstacles in her way is how she does it.\n<ol style=\"list-style: lower-roman;\">\n<li>Some of the obstacles are put in Dorothy\u2019s way by the witch, but others aren\u2019t.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><i>Alice in Wonderland<\/i><\/strong>\n<ol style=\"list-style: upper-alpha;\">\n<li>Who\u2019s the villain?\n<ol style=\"list-style: lower-roman;\">\n<li>The Red Queen may be evil, but again, the main conflicts Alice faces are related to her journey rather than the Queen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/12-essay-conclusion-examples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/a>\n<ol style=\"list-style: upper-alpha;\">\n<li>Restate the quote.<\/li>\n<li>Good vs. evil works in many stories, but some literature uses the character\u2019s journey as the main source of conflict. So let\u2019s jump to the end of your essay and explain the details you should include.<\/p>\n<p>First, you should<b> restate the quote<\/b>, being sure to give it proper attribution.<\/p>\n<p>Even though you\u2019ve already done this once (maybe more), restating the quote is a perfect way to signal to the reader that you\u2019re concluding your essay, as well as remind the reader of the exact wording of the quote.<\/p>\n<p>Then, you\u2019ll want to <b>reinterpret the quote<\/b>. This is the rewording you did in the introduction. However, it will sound too repetitive if you use the <i>exact<\/i> wording as before, so try to approach it with a fresh angle.<\/p>\n<p>Next, <strong>remind the reader of the main points<\/strong> of your body paragraphs, being sure to include the piece(s) of literature you used as the support for your position.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, you\u2019ll want a nice sentence to <strong>give closure to your essay<\/strong>.
