(They are instead joined incorrectly by the conjunction \u201cso.\u201d)<\/p>\n<h4>8. The apostrophe takes the place of the omitted letters.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Examples:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t (Do not)<\/li>\n<li>Can\u2019t (Cannot or can not, depending on <a href=\"http:\/\/writingexplained.org\/cannot-or-can-not-difference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">your intended meaning<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Won\u2019t (Will not)<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m (I am)<\/li>\n<li>Should\u2019ve (Should have)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Should\u2019ve, could\u2019ve, and would\u2019ve are grammatically correct. \u201cCould of,\u201d \u201cwould of,\u201d and \u201cshould of\u201d are <strong>not<\/strong> grammatically correct and should never be used.<\/p>\n<h4>10.
