But if it\u2019s at least mid-term, you should have a pretty good sense of what your prof is like.<\/p>\n<p>No, I don\u2019t mean knowing that he\u2019ll wear that goofy tweed jacket with elbow patches just because it\u2019s Thursday and that\u2019s what he wears <i>every <\/i>Thursday. I mean knowing what types of topics he thinks are important and what he\u2019ll likely ask you to write about.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, does he constantly remind you to review the study questions at the end of each chapter? If so, he\u2019s most likely giving you a hint as to what type of information to study.<\/p>\n<p>Has he done nothing but ramble on about the causes of the Vietnam War for the past three weeks, then seemingly at random mentions an in-class essay? If so, you can probably assume that he\u2019ll ask you to write something about the causes of the war.<\/p>\n<h4><b>#2: Review your notes, the course handouts and PowerPoints, and the text<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>Think about the major themes of the information you\u2019ve been studying. Consider the goals of the chapter or module.<\/p>\n<p>Has your professor already given you objectives or told you what you should learn? (If you don\u2019t remember, try the syllabus. Course descriptions usually have the goals and objectives of the course.) All of these can help you anticipate possible questions.<\/p>\n<h4>#3: Try to anticipate the <i>type <\/i>of question your prof might ask<\/h4>\n<p>Is your prof into comparing characters from different novels? If so, any type of comparison question could be an excellent candidate for the essay.<\/p>\n<p>Does&nbsp;your prof start every lecture discussion by asking the class to relate course content to current topics or today\u2019s news? Winging it when you get to class isn&#8217;t a good option.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re not going to be able to write a successful essay without any practice or preparation. It would be like getting a top rank in Call of Duty the first time you play the game. It just isn\u2019t going to happen. Should you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/compare-and-contrast-essay-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compare and contrast<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/explanatory-essay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explain<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/analytical-essay-outline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">analyze<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/writing-an-argumentative-essay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argue<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Also, pay attention to the details. If you\u2019re asked to include at least three examples, make <i>sure<\/i> you\u2019ve included three. You\u2019ll need that time to write.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, mark sections in your book or take note of what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/blog\/essay-writing-blog\/examples-of-paraphrasing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passages you might paraphrase<\/a>, quote, or otherwise use to support your arguments.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you can\u2019t use the notes in class, the simple act of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifehack.org\/articles\/featured\/writing-and-remembering-why-we-remember-what-we-write.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writing the information helps you remember it<\/a>. This means, of course, that when it comes time to write the essay, you\u2019ll have a better chance of remembering the important stuff.<\/p>\n<h4>#3: Try a practice essay or outline<\/h4>\n<p>If your prof has given you two or three questions and tells you that you\u2019ll have to write about one, you might try writing out the answers to the questions.<\/p>\n<p>If you decide to write a practice essay, don\u2019t forget to time yourself. This will help you budget your time for the actual in-class writing.&nbsp;If you have a list of 10 possible questions, you may not have the time (or energy) to write 10 sample essays. But you can certainly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/7-essay-outline-templates-get-essay-going\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outline ideas<\/a> for each question.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you can\u2019t use your notes during the in-class essay, you\u2019ll be better prepared to write the essay because you\u2019ll have a clear sense of what you want to write about.<\/p>\n<p>You might also try reviewing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-examples\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">example essays<\/a> on your anticipated topic to give you ideas for how to approach your own essay.<\/p>\n<h2>\u201cThat Was Easy!\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Don\u2019t you already feel better about writing an in-class essay?
