Don\u2019t worry if yours doesn\u2019t look exactly like mine. Your outline can be extremely detailed or more sparse. As long as you get the main points of your essay down in order, you\u2019ll be fine.<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Introduction\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Hook<\/li>\n<li>Thesis<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Blood\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Violence<\/li>\n<li>Guilt of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth over Duncan\u2019s murder<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Prophecy and Hallucinations\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Prophecy sets violent acts into motion<\/li>\n<li>Hallucinations point to Macbeth\u2019s guilty conscious<\/li>\n<li>Both can be seen as supernatural premonitions<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Conclusions\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Restate thesis with extra details*<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>*Outline is for illustrative purposes. Make sure your own outline has at least two points at each level. It should let the reader know what your essay is going to be about. Forgetting to include this sentence or two is pretty much a disaster. But you can choose just one or two of these elements.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, you <i>should<\/i> choose just one or two of these elements.<\/p>\n<p>Writing about too much will make your <i>Macbeth <\/i>essay harder to organize. And while you might think you\u2019re being thorough, with so many plot points, characters, and literary devices to analyze, you won\u2019t be able to get into enough detail on any one of them.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, choose one literary device, one theme, one or two characters, or whatever other specific element you can write a whole essay about. Then write it.<\/p>\n<p>Do your research and <a href=\"https:\/\/writing.wisc.edu\/Handbook\/Integrating_Quotes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">give the supporting details<\/a> any great essay should have.<\/p>\n<h3>Mistake #4: Writing a summary<\/h3>\n<p>Once you narrow down what you want to write about in your <i>Macbeth<\/i> essay, you have to <b>analyze<\/b> the information in the play. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/how-to-write-a-good-essay-commentary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Summaries simply won\u2019t do<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Summarizing a piece of literature is just telling it like it is. It requires a little more brain power and effort, but in the end, your reader might learn something she hadn\u2019t thought about before. <em>You<\/em> might even look at <i>Macbeth<\/i> in a new light.<\/p>\n<h3>Mistake #5: Writing in the first person<\/h3>\n<p>Writing in the first person (using \u201cI\u201d in your essay) in academic writing is almost always frowned upon. Unless you\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/how-to-write-a-narrative-essay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writing a narrative essay<\/a> in which you&#8217;re talking about something that happened to you, you never want to reference yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/third-person-writing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">use third person<\/a> (\u201che\/she\/it\u201d) to reference any characters or the author.<\/p>\n<p>While your <i>Macbeth <\/i>essay should clearly state your analysis of the play, your thesis is supported by evidence in the literature. Therefore, you aren\u2019t stating your opinion. Rather, you\u2019re stating facts. Writing in the first person takes away legitimacy from the statements you make.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you could write this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>I think<\/b> blood in Shakespeare\u2019s <i>Macbeth<\/i> symbolizes violence.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s obviously what you think because you\u2019re the one writing the essay.
