You need to find subjects that you can compare <i>and <\/i>contrast.<\/p>\n<p>If you choose to compare a frat party to your grandmother\u2019s 85th birthday celebration at the senior living center, chances are you won\u2019t find a lot of similarities. Look for a few important points of comparison.<\/p>\n<p><b>Here\u2019s what I mean.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you\u2019re comparing a high school graduation party to a retirement party. What do the two parties have in common? How are they different?<\/p>\n<p>You might start your lists with these ideas:<\/p>\n<p><b>Similarities<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Guests are friends and family.<\/li>\n<li>Food\/drinks are provided.<\/li>\n<li>Lots of socializing at the party.<\/li>\n<li>Gifts are given to the honored guest.<\/li>\n<li>Party signifies a new chapter in life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Differences<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spouse or children might throw a retirement party. Parents usually host a graduation party.<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol might be served at a retirement party, but 18 year olds can\u2019t legally drink alcohol at their own graduation parties.<\/li>\n<li>Retirement party might be a surprise.
