That\u2019s why your assignment is a texting while driving essay.<\/p>\n<p>Yawn, right?<\/p>\n<p>I get it \u2026 there\u2019s only so much you can say about the subject. It\u2019s bad to do. Everyone knows that. That way, you can make it awesome from the start and won\u2019t have to rewrite the whole thing.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing to think about is what type of essay it is. Because everyone knows texting while driving is dangerous, it\u2019ll probably be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/how-to-write-a-persuasive-essay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">persuasive essay<\/a>. That means you must convince your reader not to text and drive.<\/p>\n<p>In rare cases, it might be an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/argumentative-essay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">argumentative essay<\/a> in which you have to choose a side for or against texting while driving. Texting while driving causes 3,000 teen traffic fatalities every year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thesis Statement:<\/strong> In order to save lives and millions of dollars in property damage, drivers need to leave their phones out of sight.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Body Paragraph #1<\/strong>\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Define and call out to your audience\n<ol type=\"i\">\n<li>It is the responsibility of all drivers&nbsp;to understand the power they have behind the wheel and that they can easily take a human life or destroy someone else\u2019s property. Texting while driving can cause otherwise smart individuals to become so distracted that they drive their cars into malls and put hundreds of people in danger. Be a little narrative<\/h3>\n<p>While this isn\u2019t a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/how-to-start-a-narrative-essay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">narrative essay<\/a>, it might help the reader understand the severity of the consequences of texting while driving if you include some examples you or someone you know has experienced. You should still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kibin.com\/essay-writing-blog\/third-person-writing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">avoid first person<\/a> while writing your essay, but the information makes it more personal.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Example<\/b>: The police officers could have caught and arrested the Blues Brothers for the many laws they had broken, but the officers were so distracted by their cellphones that they pulled out in front of oncoming traffic and ended up colliding with a semi-truck. Luckily, no one was killed in this instance, but there are many more cases where the people involved aren\u2019t as fortunate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>2. Offer some alternatives<\/h3>\n<p>Think about why people text while they drive, and then offer some alternatives that are still suitable solutions to their needs.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Example<\/b>: Instead of replying to that text, people should have someone else in the car\u2014the deputy, a brother, or a friend\u2014do it for them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>3. Make a dramatic call to action<\/h3>\n<p>Don\u2019t make it completely unrealistic, but state what some of the consequences should be for texting while driving.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Example<\/b>: Anyone who is caught texting while driving should have to pay, at minimum, a $250 fine. There are many websites you can visit to get information, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/motorvehiclesafety\/distracted_driving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CDC<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/NCSA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.textinganddrivingsafety.com\/texting-and-driving-stats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Texting and Driving Safety website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The main thing to keep in mind when choosing your sources is whether they&#8217;re credible.<\/p>\n<p>This doesn\u2019t mean they have to be a government website or published study (although those are awesome sources!). It just means they have to have some substance to back up what they&#8217;re saying.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Does the information have a bibliography?<\/li>\n<li>Does it reference or link to published studies?<\/li>\n<li>Does it link to a credible agency?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you\u2019re <i>almost<\/i> golden. I say &#8220;almost&#8221; because the final thing to check is how recent&nbsp;the statistics are.
